A northbound Acela Express crosses the Susquehanna River on a cold December afternoon. This bridge was built in 1906 by the Pennsylvania Railroad and carries over 100 trains per day. The stone pier visible on the right side of the bridge is a relic of an earlier bridge built in 1866. Amtrak is working on replacing this bridge, though the process is set to take over a decade to complete.
