A close-knit family of Canada Geese. Canada geese are excellent parents, very protective of their offspring. Young geese stay with their parents for 9-12 months. We found this family at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, Utah.

This shot starts a new series of moms and babies.

Can we take more family pictures? by hetrick.114

Can we take more family pictures?

No one is simply born an individual; we enter this world with pre-existing relationships, bonds and obligations. Families are a crucial societal institution-one, when stable, that allows children to thrive, that strengthens communities, and that helps its members flourish during the good times and manage the not-so-good times. Families are often coined as “the basic unit of society.” Society desires strong families because productivity, prosperity and security results from such. Yet, having a family is not something simply granted as sustainability is challenging. Despite this fact, I still genuinely desire a close family. In all honestly, this picture was not taken in the past month because few pictures of all of us together exist as of late. We are never together as one except on momentous occasions, such as my sister receiving her white coat. Those who created me physically and those whose interactions shaped me mentally constructed my identity. A lack of interaction also impacts said identity. I hope to learn from the weaknesses of my family in order to better and create a fruitful one in the future.
