An intricate, ornately carved, domed ceiling. The intricate patterns and designs, likely Islamic in style, are carved into the plaster or stucco. The warm, golden light casts shadows, highlighting the depth and detail of the carvings. The image shows the craftsmanship and artistry of the builders, showcasing the beauty of the architecture. No specific people or roles are identifiable from the image alone.
Cairn Conservation this morning. Lovely to see everyone again, albeit in sad circumstances, as we lost our oldest and last remaining original member of the group recently: Pat (94, but you'd never have known it).
We were replacing step boards here on North Kerne, as well as further back down the path. Very satisfying work, and I particularly enjoyed chatting to another of the volunteers. You can see her beautiful dog in this photo :). Unlike the other dog in our group, he does not bark at all!
Came home and had a cup of tea with Tim, then a shower and some lunch - and a nice easy afternoon of Nazi shooting, bird feeder filling, and not a lot else. Tim cooked us another delicious beany chilli in the evening and we watched the darts final.
I stumbled across the old picture on eBay when I was doing research after my trip to North Fairfield, so I had to buy it.
Built for father-son duo Elmon and Harry Hoyt in 1882, this textbook example of Italianate architecture dominates North Fairfield's forlorn downtown. An 1896 book about Huron County called the Hoyts' business "perhaps the best country store in Ohio," which is quite a claim, but it evidently wasn't good enough to survive the rise of the supermarket and big-box retailer. Now, the building is teetering on the edge of collapse, and it even made its way onto Preservation Ohio's 2024 list of endangered historic buildings.
What an exciting photo to start the New Year: a freshly made bed. Lol.
We had a bit of a lie-in after our late night last night, and a very slow morning. It took me until nearly lunchtime to bathe and get dressed (I did cut and wash my hair in that time, too), then didn't do much else all day apart from killing zombies (on the Xbox) and changing the bed. It was my turn to feel a bit coldy today. Feeling hopeful it will pass quickly though, as Tim's feeling quite a bit better.
Proper New Year's viewing on the telly this evening, with the World's Strongest Man finals.
