Seaboard Coast Line GE U18B locomotives lead the first passenger cars of the southbound Ringling Brothers & Barnum & Bailey Circus Train across the grade crossing at Fort Harrison In Clearwater, Florida, 11-6-1975, Fred Clark, Jr. This is a very busy street and the cars and other vehicles will build up for quite some distance because this circus train is very long and travels at a low speed. This rail line is the former SAL route to Saint Petersburg and it is being used to situate the train in the best position for the circus to set up. Again Fred captures this image from his trusty step ladder, a tool used in taking numerous photos.

Amtrak Champion heading southbound is seen with the tavern lounge observation car departing the station at Winter Park, Florida, 4-26-1975, Fred Clark, Jr. It is nice to see a tavern lounge observation car still being used by many of the Florida long distance trains. The crossing gates are down as the train crosses the street in the background. It appears that an application of weed killer along the platform track would not be a bad idea, all depending on the type of weed killer being used.

Bedfellows.

This shot shows Castle set power cars 43156 and 43186 hauling 57602 and sleeper set. 57602 had failed on the down sleepers earlier that morning, the whole set went forward to Penzance as the 5Z50 1230 Plymouth to Long Rock. I havent been able to find out why the 57 and coaches had to be towed to Penzance, maybe there was a shortage of 57 drivers ?
5Z50 is seen on the eastern end of Tiddy Viaduct near St Germans.
I choose this location so i could get a side on view of the ensemble , I also wanted to take the picture before the lead power cars had their wheel sets obscured by the wall on the viaduct which starts part way across.

FROM THE ASHES...

Early days at Toddington on the fledgling Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway. As these are from colour negatives I have struggled with a definite date but have realised that they are from around August 1982. Some of my others negatives are from a year earlier. The big change being the security panels that are in the process of being fitted. If anyone knows for sure when the work was carried out I'd be grateful for an update.

In this view are GWR 4-6-0 7821 Ditcheat Manor, GWR 2-8-0 2807 and in the background-King George Hunslet 0-6-0ST Works No 2409 of 1942.

Having photographed the station when it was still fairly complete in 1979 I certainly wondered whether this scheme would be successful. Obviously I should not have doubted.

The section of rail-line that went from Winton to Hughenden in the Queensland Outback, used to stop at the Oondooroo Siding, but no longer. The Railways capitulated to the semis and road-trains and tore up the tracks.
